A New Oven Brings More Than Meals

For months, Melony and her two children managed without a fully functioning oven. She explored every option, researching repairs, troubleshooting the appliance herself, and searching resale shops and online marketplaces for an affordable replacement. Her family’s care manager also reached out to community resources, but none were able to help.

Without an oven, preparing everyday meals became a challenge. More importantly, the family lost something they cherished. Cooking and baking together had long been part of their routine, a chance to spend time together, learn new recipes, and create lasting memories around the kitchen table.

Through WNC Bridge Foundation’s Children’s Services Fund, the family received a new oven, restoring both a household necessity and a favorite family tradition.  “The first thing we made was chocolate chip cookies,” Melony shared. “Then we made lasagna for dinner, and the next morning I made a breakfast casserole.”

Later, she sent photos of the meals her family had prepared along with a note of thanks.

“You have no idea how much easier cooking is now that I can bake too,” she wrote. “I am beyond grateful. We absolutely appreciate everything you did for us.”

A reliable oven restored an important household necessity, but it also brought back something less tangible: the comfort of gathering in the kitchen, cooking side by side, and enjoying meals made together. For Melony and her children, this was more than a new appliance. It was a return to a family tradition they love.
