Supporting Maternal Health Equity in WNC
Sistas Caring 4 Sistas (SC4S) works to improve maternal and infant health outcomes by providing culturally responsive doula care, maternal health education, advocacy, and support services for underserved mothers and families throughout WNC.
A NOW Grant from WNC Bridge is supporting the Rural Doula Maternal Health Equity Initiative, a program designed to strengthen collaboration between community-based doulas and healthcare providers. Through specialized training, mentorship, and professional development, doulas gain the skills needed to navigate hospital settings, communicate effectively with healthcare teams, and provide compassionate support to mothers during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery.
By strengthening the healthcare-system readiness of doulas, SC4S is helping create a more coordinated, respectful, and supportive maternal healthcare experience for rural and underserved families across the region.
