Stability and Healing After the Storm
Donna lives in Mitchell County and is currently receiving cancer treatment at Hope Cancer Center. Her care requires frequent travel for treatments in Buncombe County, relying on family and friends for transportation and support. During Hurricane Helene, Donna’s childhood home, where she has lived since her parents passed away, suffered extensive damage after several trees fell on the house. The home became uninhabitable, leaving her to stay with family while also managing the stress of lost income, home repairs, and ongoing cancer treatment.
Donna applied for FEMA assistance but was denied and had not received updates after filing an appeal. She also did not have homeowner’s insurance to help with the repairs. Through Community Initiatives support, we were able to help replace the roof, giving Donna an important first step toward returning home. This assistance helped restore safety and stability during an already difficult season, allowing her to focus on healing and rebuilding her life.
Donna states: “I thank God for putting you in my path. You are a blessing. Thank you for everything!”
